Australian Design Rules
The national standards for vehicle safety, emissions and anti-theft that a vehicle must meet before it is supplied to the market in Australia.
Second stage manufacturer
A business that completes or modifies a vehicle supplied by another manufacturer, such as fitting a body to a cab chassis, and takes responsibility for the completed vehicle's compliance.
Compliance plate
The plate fitted to a vehicle to show that the manufacturer or second stage manufacturer certifies it meets the applicable design rules.
Welding procedure specification
A documented set of welding parameters and conditions for a joint type that has been qualified by testing and must be followed to produce a sound weld.
Stage gate
A defined inspection point between production stages where a build must pass inspection before it moves on.
Non-conformance
Any product, material or process that does not meet a drawing, specification, standard or procedure requirement.
Disposition
The decision made about non-conforming product: rework, use as is with approval, scrap or return to supplier.
Isocyanate
A hardener component in two pack paints that can cause asthma and sensitisation and requires strict respiratory protection and health monitoring.
Torque paint
A mark applied across a fastener and its seat after torquing to show it has been tightened to specification and to reveal any later movement.
Rear overhang
The distance from the rear axle group centre to the rearmost point of the vehicle, limited by the design rules and the vehicle standards.
