Purpose. Sets out the checks, tests and documentation required before a completed vehicle is plated, released and handed to the customer.

1.Entry conditions

A build enters final inspection only when every stage gate on the work order is signed, all non-conformances are closed or have an approved use as is disposition, and the paint gate is complete. The inspector must confirm the drawing revision and the customer specification for the build before starting.

2.Compliance checklist

Complete the Australian Design Rule checklist for the vehicle category and build type, measuring and recording every dimension and confirming the fitment and function of every required item. Weigh the vehicle on the calibrated weighbridge and record tare and axle group masses. Any item that does not comply must be recorded in the non-conformance register and rectified before proceeding.

  • Dimensions, overhang and ground clearance
  • Lighting, reflectors and marking plates
  • Underrun protection and guards
  • Couplings and safety chains
  • Mass and axle group loads
  • Placards, labels and plates

3.Functional tests

Test every electrical circuit including lighting, indicators, brake lights, reversing alarms and auxiliary circuits. Cycle hydraulic systems and test brake application and release. Operate doors, tailgates, curtains, landing legs and mechanical units. Check wheel nut torque, tyre pressures and wheel alignment where the build includes steer or self steering axles.

4.Road test

Conduct the road test on the approved route with the vehicle unloaded, checking braking, steering, tracking, noise and vibration and the operation of all lights. Record the distance, the driver and any defect on the work order. Vehicles must not be road tested until the compliance checklist is complete.

5.Servicing after assembly

Complete the post assembly service: check and top up fluids, grease all points, torque check critical fasteners, clean the vehicle and remove protective films and masking. Fit the operator manuals, warranty booklet and spare keys.

6.Plating and release

Compile the compliance file and present it with the work order to the Quality and Compliance Manager for the plating authorisation, countersigned by the General Manager. Fit the plate, photograph the vehicle and plate, and update the work order to Delivered when the customer signs the handover record.
