The situation

What has happened

Work order WO-26-0425 is an aluminium tipper body for Murrumbidgee Shire Council. On Tuesday the subframe rails were cut 15 mm short because a superseded drawing was used, and the rails were scrapped. The Fabrication Manager has asked you to prepare the materials again from the correct revision and set up the subframe jig with the Leading Hand Welder. The press brake has a back gauge fault under repair, the ten tonne crane is due for its quarterly inspection and the shop has just had an arc flash injury, so pre-start checks and screen positions are being watched closely. The build is due on 16 October and the shop cannot afford another scrapped set of rails.

Your brief. Read the work order and the correct drawing, prepare the cut list, draw materials from stores, cut and prepare the sections using the correct tools and pre-start checks, set up the jig and present the prepared materials for tack welding, recording everything on the work order.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for the student confirming the drawing revision before preparing the cut list, dimensions that match the drawing supplied, a stock check that identifies the low channel stock, and pre-start checks that recognise the open press brake fault. The jig description must include a squareness or diagonal check. Safe work practices must include screen position, extraction and personal protective equipment.
